Tim Spencer (bass): The very first album I owned (1974) was Barry Manilow, which I won in a phone contest with KJR. In High School (1979–82), I was the outcast, listening to Elvis Costello, Joe Jackson, The Clash, The Specials, Bob Marley and The English Beat while everyone else was listening to Billy Joel and Styx. I feel my early experience with “New Wave” heavily influenced my love for the bass as an instrument and its place in the mix of a song.
I started playing bass in 1992. I was a founding member of a Ballard garage band named The Loafers and played with them from 1993 to 2000. After a few years on a musical hiatus, I’m psyched to be back in a band once again… I feel like I have large shoes to fill replacing Matt in Wilgus. My goal is to respect Matt’s grooves while making them my own.
The CDs you will find in my car right now are Diana Krall, Norah Jones, Crowded House, Del Amitri, Firewater, The The, Morphine, Nirvana and Tom Waits.
